WEST LOTHIAN: 40 FAVOURITE WALKS (PB)

Once a pioneering centre of the world’s oil industry, West Lothian is today a predominantly rural area where distinctive red bings, or spoil heaps, bear witness to former coal, iron and shale mining operations. The area has a surprising number of country parks, hills and wildlife havens to explore. It is also home to prehistoric burial sites, ruined castles and palaces, and stately homes, as well as the remnants of the Antonine Wall, the Roman Empire's northernmost frontier.
