Description
Mary Anning was born in 1799 in the Dorset town of Lyme Regis. She made her living finding and selling fossils, but her knowledge and skill brought few advantages. Condemned by inequalities of class, gender, and wealth, she never reaped the rewards enjoyed by her fellow geologists and palaeontologists. After her death at the age of 47, she slipped into relative obscurity. Now acknowledged as ‘the greatest fossilist the world ever knew’ this illustrated biography celebrates her many extraordinary achievements.
