Description
In 2012, when working at the Royal Horticultural Society's library, Fiona Davison unearthed a book of copperplate notes dating back to 1822. They had been written by young men - among them, Joseph Paxton - in support of their application to join the Society's Garden. Following their divergent stories took Davison from Chiswick to Bolivia and revealed tales of fraud, scandal and madness - as well as fabulous plants and gardens. This is a celebration of the unsung heroes of horticulture whose achievements continue to influence how we garden today.
