Description
In 1933, in the verdant London suburb of Hampstead, Barbara Hepworth and Ben Nicholson embarked on a love affair. Drawn into their circle were Henry Moore, Paul Nash, Herbert Read, and famed émigrés Walter Gropius, founder of the Bauhaus, and Piet Mondrian. Living and working within a few streets of their Parkhill Road studios, the artists formed Unit One, a cornerstone of the Modernist movement which would bring them international renown, and briefly make a new way of living seem possible.
