Description
In WWII thousands of women were plucked from their normal lives to serve with the Auxiliary Territorial Service, the Women's Auxiliary Air Force, Women's Royal Naval Service and the Timber Corps. In this book, 19 Scotswomen tell their stories in their own words. Born between 1918 and 1926, and interviewed between 1998 and 2005, they came from towns and villages throughout Scotland, and experienced wartime service as a crucible of challenge, variety, fascination and danger in which close and lasting friendships were forged.
