Description
Inspired by French post-Impressionist and Fauvist artists, the Scottish Colourists (Peploe, Fergusson, Hunter and Cadell) introduced inter-war Britain to a whole new style of painting. Though each had a distinct style and focus, they collectively challenged contemporary convention with their bold use of colour, vigorous brushwork and affinity for painting en plein air. Their influence endures to this day.
