Behind the collection – the Luxe Edit
Words matter but beautiful design can turn a book into a work of art. At Bookspeed we spend a lot of time admiring books for their beauty. So, we wanted to bring together the books that feel so luxurious their lucky owners will want to treasure them forever.
Charlotte, one of the architects behind our Luxe Edit, tells us more about this new highly curated collection.
What was the inspiration behind the Luxe Edit?
Platforms, such as Instagram and TikTok, have changed the way people think about the spaces they live in. Being invited into beautiful, stylish homes has given us all lots more ideas on how to recreate these spaces. The rise of DIY content has helped make it more accessible.
Retailers are reacting to that and they're providing pieces, such as the homewares and the textiles, to achieve these thoughtful designs. These beautiful books speak to that demand, providing an affordable option to add interest to a room or help communicate an identity.
How did you decide what books to include in the Luxe Edit?
At Bookspeed, we’re lucky to be able to offer our customers lots of attractive books, but for the Luxe Edit, we wanted to identify the essence of what makes a book worthy of displaying versus a book you simply have on your shelf.
We decided to bring together books that are priced at a slightly higher RRP because we want them to be regarded as an investment by the consumer. We were also looking for a bit more luxury in the production, for example interesting textures or materials used for the cover or just an overall feeling of substance or weight. When it came to subject matter, we were drawn to content that is less instructional and more aspirational.
What themes are covered by the books in this collection?
These books are a great way to add some character and personality into your home. Like art and photographs, they're to be enjoyed and interacted with. Often they've been selected to communicate a person's interests and tastes, so it was important to cover a broad range of themes with this collection.
There are books with a bit more of a masculine energy, and others that are very minimal in style. We’ve selected books that are a bit more grounded in nature, as well as high-end fashion titles. There’s a good mix for lots of different people.
What kind of retailers should look at this collection?
I think this collection is open to many different retailers. Lots of smart retailers are moving towards interiors, and these books work really well displayed alongside other homewares products.
I've heard from farm shops that these books complement interiors ranges. They work well in fashion spaces, particularly something like 1,000 Deadstock Sneakers displayed alongside clothing or trainers. But I think they can sell really well included within lifestyle retail and gift ranges.
Why do you think there is demand for luxury?
I think people are looking to buy products with longevity and need to feel like they are spending their money well. A lot of these books reference trusted brands like Liberty or heritage style – there’s a timelessness that’s antithetical to trend churn. I think this is why retailers are turning towards less but better.
We're all quite conscious of waste too. But a coffee table book offers a way to add freshness into your space or change with the seasons, without being particularly wasteful. Small moments of beauty in your house are a lovely way to cheer up your day.
