Despite having absolutely no experience of crofting or island life, Tamsin Calidas and her husband left high-flying careers in London to move to the Western Isles. As the months wore on, the children she'd longed for fail to materialise, and her marriage broke down, Tamsin found herself more and more isolated. Injured, ill, without money or friends, she was pared right back to being a raw element of the often-harsh landscape. But with that immersion in her surroundings came the possibility of rebirth and renewal.
