It’s that time of year when everyone brings out their list of 2023 favourites. While we hate to be predictable, we thought we’d join in. It’s a great opportunity to shine a light on some of the gift books we loved this year.

So, in no particular order, these are our top 10 books of 2023.

We knew this title from Skittle Dog would be a hit as soon as it landed in the Bookspeed offices. We were right. This was a top seller when we debuted it at the spring and summer trade shows, and it hasn’t stopped selling ever since.

The coronation of King Charles III was one of the events of the year, so it didn’t surprise us that this recent addition to the Little People, Big Dreams series would be popular. It flew out of our warehouse during the run up to the big day.

Last year, everyone was talking about air fryers, so we were delighted when the fantastic Foolproof series released a new cookbook devoted to the must-have gadget. The gift market was crying out for an attractively packaged air fryer recipe book, and we think this one fits the bill. Judging by this book’s sales, you agreed.

Minalima, the design studio behind the graphic universe of the Harry Potter series of films, has turned its skills towards creating beautiful editions of children’s classic books. These special editions make beautiful gifts, and we were delighted to see Minalima’s release of the Prisoner of Azkaban this year. Another fantastic addition to the series.

2023 may well have been the year of the mushroom. Influenced by online cottagecore trends and the renaissance of 70s psychedelia, mushroom motifs began appearing everywhere, in homewares, fashion and books. We launched a mushroom collection packed full of autumnal colours and themes, and this mini gift edition of Fungarium emerged as one of the star titles from this range.

But this year saw people recreating his iconic style on social media, posting their own accidentally Wes Anderson video clips.
